Benefits of stretching

Stretching increases flexibility- flexible muscles can improve daily performance, i.e. lifting packages, children.
Improves range of motion- keeps you in balance and you’re less prone to falls and the related injuries as you age.
Improves circulation- increases blood flow to your muscles improving circulation and speeding recovery after an injury.
Relieves stress- relaxes the tense muscles that often accompany stress.
- Warm up first by walking, while pumping your arms, marching in place or try a low intense exercise for 10 min.
- Stretch after your exercise when your muscles are warmed up.
- Take your time. Hold each stretch for 30 sec.
- Don’t bounce! You can cause small tears in the muscle. This tear can leave scar tissue as the muscle heals, which tightens the muscle even further, making you less flexible and more prone to pain.
- Try not to feel pain. Tension is good but if it hurts you’ve gone too far. Relax and start over slowly move into the stretch just enough to feel tension, not pain.
- Stretch whenever you exercise or in between.
