When performing shoulder exercises overhead during boot camp you must remember to keep your thumbs pointed up.  Biomechanically, pointing the thumbs up rotates the shoulder externally, preventing the underlying rotator cuff tendons from pinching within the joint.  Repetitive pinching (impingement) of the rotator cuff tendons could lead to inflammation (tendinitis) and/or a tear.
