Red Hot Chili Peppers and other Foods and Beverages can Boost your Metabolism
Research indicates adding spicy foods to your diet can kick up your metabolism. Adding a tablespoon of green or red chili peppers can temporarily boost your metabolism by 23 percent. Some studies suggest they will speed up your metabolism for up to 30 minutes but if you eat them more often the benefits will add up. I often add red pepper flakes to my chili, soups and even pasta sauce. Make sure not to over do it if you’re sharing the meal with your family.
The body has to work harder and burns twice as more calories when digesting protein. Albeit, you want to eat a balanced diet with carbs, try substituting them with protein such as lean beef, fish, chicken, tofu, nuts, eggs, beans and low fat dairy products. Some of these proteins like the cheese and nuts are portable snack foods.
If you’re like me and enjoy a good cup of Joe in the morning or after lunch you’re already increasing your metabolism. Caffeine can improve our concentration and energy. A study following a 145-pound woman who drank 2 cups of black coffee, claimed she was able to burn an extra 50 calories over the next four hours. Remember adding creamers and sugar can take on far more calories then you can burn.
For non-coffee drinkers try green tea or oolong tea. These teas contain caffeine and catechins, substances that rev up the metabolism for a couple of hours. Research suggests that drinking 2- 4 cups can burn up to 50 calories a day.
Avoid crash diets such as eating only 1000 calories per day. Although you can lose weight fast you’re also losing muscle. The lower your muscle mass the slower your metabolism. The final result is your body will gain more weight back fast because your body is burning fewer calories.
To sum it up, the impact of what we eat and drink along with building muscle has proven to show benefits. Exercising in the morning will keep your metabolism on over drive for hours. Keep moving throughout the day and you’ll begin to see a healthier you.
