Burn Calories While You Work

office_pushupsThe average full time employee spends more then 8 hours in the workplace. Finding time to exercise is a common complaint. Well there really is no excuse because the beauty of exercise is that you can do it anywhere. You just need to be a little creative.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
If possible, walk or bike to work. If you ride the bus or train get off a few blocks early and walk the rest of the way.
You probably know the common one, which is to take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you work on a high floor get off the elevator 10 -20 floors below and take the stairs.
If you’re lucky enough to have an office, bring a yoga mat and work on your abs for 10 minutes. Try push ups or a sun salutation. Bring in stretch bands, weights and workout your upper body while on the phone.
Take fitness breaks. Set an alarm for 10 minute intervals switching up your routine. Walk during your lunch break. Use a pedometer to count your steps aim for 6000-10,000 steps per day.
According to Bob Doyle, motivational speaker and certified coach there are many reasons to encourage fitness in the workplace. The most common reasons are; reducing absenteeism; increasing energy & improving concentration. Further, fit employees tend to take on leadership roles, fit employees set and achieve goals, fit employees tend to have a much better attitude and are less stressed.
There are plenty of websites with sample workouts www.shape.com or www.womenshealthmag.com are my favorites.
There are numerous reasons why exercise is so important for your well being. When you’re fit you feel more productive, your confidence increases and your over all attitude and mood changes. Stop making excuses and find ways to make it part of your life. Even if it’s 5 minutes it counts.
