Avoid Exercise Burnout with a Few Simple steps
Our mindsets are unique when it comes to exercise. Some people work extremely hard at the beginning and then hit a point where they can’t progress anymore. While others have a hard time getting started. See if you fall into any of these categories and discover ways to overcome burnout.
The Over-Achiever:
Your determined to get into a size 6 by beach season and you never miss a workout resulting in, burnout. This happens when you expect too much too soon. It’s better to start at a pace you can handle in the beginning to avoid burnout and self- defeating thoughts, i.e., I’m in such pain I need to take a week off. A week becomes a month and so on. Start small such as lower reps and weights or run for 10 minute intervals.
Honeymoon is gone:
Your excitement diminishes when you stop seeing results causing you to skip workouts and the gym. Try this burnout buster; set mini goals for yourself i.e., train twice a week, walk in between sessions, lightweights twice a week. If you accomplish this, your confidence will increase and willingness to continue is a given.
The Staller: Boredom and apathy override your commitment and motivation. You’ll use anything to make an excuse to avoid exercise, i.e., family, work and weather. Gain insight to your behavior. Once you realize your making excuses change your thoughts and your behavior.
Try changing your attitude with assistance by trying a class like Bootcamp. Exercising with a group of people can motivate you and make your push harder. Incorporate plyometrics, cycling, boxing into your routine.
Change the routine daily to avoid boredom. It’s an excellent way to challenge your body and you will fight burnout.
